If the work health and safety laws apply to your organisation it must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of all of its workers, including contractors, volunteers or visitors. ISO 45001:2018 is applicable to any organization regardless of its size, type and activities. It is applicable to the OH&S risks under the organization's control, considering factors such as the context in which the organization operates and the needs and expectations of its workers and other interested parties.

Emergency exits, Exit light testing, Fire extinguisher, Fire curtains, Fire Doors and Fire Reel checks are one of those jobs that many businesses don’t realise they legally are obliged to do every six to 12 months under Australian Standards. Thermographic testing of industrial motors, equipment, systems and switchboards identifies dangerously hot areas which can cause equipment failure and fires. This is normally requested by business insurance companies annually. WorkSafe Victoria also advises that electrical safety testing and tagging for all plug-in equipment falls under the general obligations of Section 21(2)(a) of the Act. The maintenance of essential services will ensure that the safety measures mainly dealing with fire situations within the building, remain at the required operational level throughout the life of the building.
